Blastman

AngloGold Ashanti is recruiting an experienced Blastman to join its Mining Department at the Obuasi Gold Mine in Ghana. This opportunity is ideal for underground mining professionals with expertise in explosives handling, development and production blasting, and safe mining operations.

As a Blastman, you will support underground gold mining production through safe and efficient charging and blasting activities. Working closely with Shiftbosses, mining teams, and contractors, you will ensure compliance with Ghanaian mining regulations, optimize blasting performance, minimize operational risks, and contribute to production targets and continuous improvement.

• Conduct safe underground development and production blasting operations.

• Handle, transport, and use explosives in accordance with approved procedures and regulations.

• Interpret charge plans and underground development layouts.

• Identify hazards, assess operational risks, and implement safety controls.

• Collaborate with Shiftbosses to optimize blasting efficiency and production performance.

• Ensure compliance with mining safety, environmental, and explosives regulations.

• Monitor material consumption, minimize wastage, and support cost control.

• Prepare accurate daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.

• Report incidents, implement corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement.

• MSLC/SSCE qualification or at least 2 years of Blastman experience.

• Underground Blastman's Certificate of Competency (MINCOM).

• Valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (Classes C & E).

• 2–5 years of operational experience in underground mining.

• International underground mining experience.

• Knowledge of underground development charging and production blasting.

• Mechanical knowledge of Normet and Hypercharge equipment.

• Strong understanding of mining safety, hazard identification, and explosives regulations.

• Ability to interpret blasting plans and underground development layouts.

• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

• Physical fitness and ability to pass pre-employment medical examinations.
