The most important minerals are gold, copper, cobalt, diamonds, iron ore, bauxite, PGMs, lithium, uranium, and rare earth elements (REEs). Gold is Africa’s most widely mined commodity, and cobalt and copper from the DRC are critical for global electric vehicle batteries. Lithium deposits in Zimbabwe, Mali, and Namibia are gaining importance.
