Greg Field Steps In as Deep Yellow’s New CEO
Deep Yellow appoints Greg Field as CEO, bringing major project expertise to advance uranium development and strengthen Namibia’s mining future.
Deep Yellow Limited has announced a major leadership transition with the appointment of Greg Field as its incoming Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective no later than 1 May 2026. This marks a strategic step for the company as it seeks to position itself more competitively within the global uranium sector, particularly at a time when nuclear energy is gaining renewed importance in the clean energy transition. Field’s arrival is presented as a reinforcement of Deep Yellow’s long term growth ambitions, with his extensive background expected to guide the company through its next phase of development.
With a career spanning 29 years, Greg Field brings a substantial portfolio of experience gathered across multiple continents and leading mining jurisdictions. Prior to joining Deep Yellow, he served as Managing Director for Project Development at Rio Tinto, where he played an instrumental role in the planning and execution of large scale mining projects. His expertise encompasses both brownfield and greenfield developments, allowing him to navigate the complexities of expanding existing operations while also leading entirely new project builds. Field’s track record includes leadership in major studies and developments across commodities such as Diamonds, Copper, Aluminium and Lithium, which underscores his multi disciplinary capability and adaptability within diverse operational environments.
Field has been directly involved in some of the mining industry’s most technically demanding undertakings. A notable example is the US 7 billion Oyu Tolgoi underground project in Mongolia, recognized globally for its engineering complexity and operational scale. He has also overseen sophisticated processing facilities, including the US 400 million Rincon Direct Lithium Extraction plant in Argentina and the US 1.3 billion AP60 aluminium smelter in Quebec. His international experience extends across South Africa, Australia, Mongolia, the United States, Canada and Argentina, providing him with a global perspective that aligns well with Deep Yellow’s operational footprint. Importantly, Field is already familiar with Namibia, a core jurisdiction for the company, which is expected to facilitate continuity and smooth integration as he takes on leadership of key assets.
In setting out his vision, Field emphasised the growing importance of uranium as a strategic fuel in the global clean energy transition. He highlighted that Deep Yellow holds a unique position with two execution ready projects capable of generating long term shareholder value while supporting future greenfield opportunities. His immediate focus will be on advancing the Tumas Project toward its near term milestones, an undertaking that the Board believes will benefit significantly from his capital project delivery expertise. The Board also noted that Field’s proven ability to manage large, complex developments is crucial as Deep Yellow shifts from strategy to execution across its project pipeline.
This leadership transition could have meaningful implications for Africa's mining industry, particularly in Namibia’s uranium segment. Field’s experience with large scale, technically intensive projects may accelerate development timelines, attract additional investment interest into the region and strengthen confidence in Southern Africa’s capacity to deliver world class mining operations. His emphasis on uranium’s role in the global energy transition could also amplify the continent’s visibility as a reliable supplier of critical energy minerals, thereby influencing broader economic growth and long term stability in the mining sector.
