Galileo Commences Drilling Campaign at Molefe Project in Zambia

Galileo begins drilling at Zambia’s Molefe Mine under its new Jubilee partnership, targeting near term production support and long term resource growth.

Galileo Resources has begun a focused drilling campaign at the Molefe Mine in Zambia, marking an important early milestone under its newly formalised Collaboration Agreement with Jubilee Metals. This initiative signals the start of a structured programme aimed at supporting immediate production needs while laying the groundwork for sustained resource growth. With drilling now underway, the company is moving to stabilise short term output and advance the geological understanding required to extend the mine’s operational horizon.

The programme, which has already completed two drill holes, forms part of an approximately ten hole campaign designed to define and replace near mine resources. Galileo’s near term objective is to ensure that current production levels can be maintained over the next three months, a critical window for operational continuity. In parallel, the company aims to replenish depleted resource areas within a six month time frame, ensuring that medium term production remains robust. These efforts reflect a pragmatic balance between short term operational demands and the need for disciplined resource replacement.

Beyond the immediate production focus, Galileo’s longer term strategy involves regional reconnaissance drilling that will test the broader potential of the Molefe area. This phase is intended to identify new mineralised zones capable of supporting an extended mine life, thereby reducing reliance on existing orebodies. Chairman Colin Bird has expressed confidence that early drilling indications align with expectations and will underpin ongoing production targets. His comments underscore the strategic importance of this campaign in the company’s broader development plans.

For Zambia and the wider African mining sector, the Molefe drilling programme highlights the role of targeted near mine exploration in sustaining operational performance across mature assets. Successful delivery of short, medium and long term goals could reinforce local production capacity, stimulate further exploration investment and support employment in the region. Moreover, Galileo’s partnership with Jubilee Metals illustrates how collaborative development models can enhance resource utilisation and strengthen project economics within Africa’s competitive copper landscape.

Mini Glossary

  • Resource drilling: Drilling conducted to define or upgrade mineral resources near an existing operation.
  • Reconnaissance drilling: Early stage drilling aimed at identifying new mineralised zones over a broad area.
  • Orebody: A naturally occurring concentration of minerals that can be economically extracted.
  • Operational continuity: The ability to maintain consistent production without interruptions.
  • Collaboration Agreement: A formal partnership framework outlining shared development roles between companies.
