Blencowe Uncovers New High Grade Graphite Mineralisation at Iyan

Blencowe discovers new high grade graphite at the Iyan deposit in Uganda, highlighting strong upside beyond the current Orom Cross resource.

Blencowe Resources has announced the discovery of a new high grade graphite zone at the Iyan deposit within its Orom Cross project in Uganda, following the release of the first assay results from its Stage 7 drilling programme. The findings highlight near continuous graphite mineralisation extending from close to surface down to depths of around 100 metres, reinforcing the scale potential of the wider Orom Cross system and pointing to meaningful upside beyond the current defined resource.

The most significant result comes from the first deep drill hole at Iyan, which returned multiple long and high grade intersections. The standout intercept measured 18.85 metres grading 7.01 percent total graphite content, a result that underscores the strength and continuity of mineralisation at depth. Importantly, drilling indicates that the graphite system remains open beyond the current drilling limits, suggesting further expansion potential as exploration continues.

Iyan is not included in Blencowe’s existing Jorc compliant resource estimate, making these results particularly significant. The deposit lies immediately adjacent to the Northern Syncline and is interpreted as a western continuation of that mineralised system. This geological interpretation supports the view that Iyan forms part of a much larger, interconnected graphite province within Orom Cross, rather than an isolated occurrence.

From a development perspective, the proximity of Iyan to the proposed processing plant site offers potential operational synergies. Shallow, continuous mineralisation combined with favourable location could support efficient mine planning and lower unit costs if incorporated into future development scenarios. With assays still pending from additional deep and shallow drill holes, Blencowe expects further clarity on the scale and consistency of the mineralisation over the coming months.

In the broader context, the Iyan and earlier Beehive discoveries continue to strengthen the investment case for Orom Cross as a large scale graphite project with long life potential. For Uganda’s mining sector, the ongoing expansion of graphite resources could support increased foreign investment, infrastructure development, and participation in global battery and energy transition supply chains. As Blencowe targets an updated resource estimate in early 2026, continued exploration success may significantly enhance the project’s strategic importance and accelerate its pathway toward first production.

Mini-Glossary

  • Total graphite content (TGC): The percentage of graphite contained within the host rock.
  • Jorc compliant resource: A mineral resource estimate prepared in accordance with the Australasian Joint Ore Reserves Committee reporting standards.
  • Intercept: A measured length of mineralisation encountered in a drill hole.
  • Syncline: A geological fold in which rock layers dip inward toward a central axis.
  • Operational synergies: Efficiency gains achieved by integrating nearby deposits into a single development plan.
